As other people have mentioned, the interior of the restaurant probably doesn't do the restaurant too many favours being a bit drab but this is more than made up for by the quality of the welcome, and the service in general. The food is of good quality as well nothing particularly fancy but honest French cuisine. I particularly enjoyed my herring starter and we both enjoyed the dessert very much. The wine list (much... What Alexandria Evrard doesn't like about Au gout du jour:
This place seems to be closed on most days but our party of 4 struck lucky on the 2nd night! This is a decent enough restaurant which has a reasonable fixed price menu. Alas the place was full (everywhere else was shut! and there was only one kindly lady doing all the serving (one of the owners I guess and service, even by French standards, was on the slow side. We arrived on a Saturday night without a reservation and we’re lucky to get a table. The food was good, but a single waitress wasn’t enough for a full house. Drinks arrived after the food. We would’ve taken another drink, but by the time we were able to alert the waitress, we decided to get the check, pay and leave. Too bad, because the food was really enjoyable. Service probably owing to the fact that a lot of places lost personnel during COVID-19 lockdowns or non-vaccinated people not being hired as is the case in a lot of places these days.
One of the few places to eat in St Ambroix, in the evening, out of season. Had an enjoyable meal but chef forgot our starters which was a bit disappointing The lady of the house was very apologetic but still it did marr the evening a bit. Food was nice, well presented and tasty but nothing out of the ordinary and, for my mind, a little over priced for what it was. The wine was delicious at 17 euros a bottle. Would visit again.
Four of us went for an evening meal and overall the food and wine was quite good. The one let down was the fact that the main courses were served on cold plates which may have been why the vegetables were also cold. If that had not been the case, it was probably worthy of 4 stars. Could not complain about the service which was courteous and friendly.
When you are on the outside, it looks quite old, but it was a very good experience when we were in. Very friendly host lady and the food was fresh. Also the kids were welcome and we'll treated. A place to come back.
Très bonne adresse, cuisine excellente, enfin du fait maison !!!!!!!Très très bonne cuisine et cerise sur le gâteau, on vous accueille avec une gentillesse qui dure tout au long du repas.
