Our server, I am sorry I don't remember his name, was from S.Africa and was outstanding. We love the food at all the Duke's and yesterday was our first dining at the San Diego location. The food was excellent. I wish we had a table closer to the view, but I didn't know to ask. View all feedback.
What Hokie Pokie doesn't like about Duke's La Jolla:
We got a beautiful table to celebrate a birthday. The calamari appetizer was burnt and the panko crust was not great. The poke tacos were good. Macadamia crusted mahi mahi portion was tiny for the price and undercooked wobbly and slightly pink in the thickest area of the fish. Baked ono was cooked well but sides for both just kind of blah flavor. Kids fish and chips fries were cold and minimal (8 10 fries), fish dece... View all feedback.
Nice food here. Especially the appetizers. The fried Calamari was very well done. Easy baked with good apron. The strips were beautiful and fleshy. The sauces delicious. The rib removal was also very good. Had a real kick, more than expected, but very good. I ordered the chicken and rib combo. The rib was good as the appetizers, but the chicken on the spits was just ok. They were grilled and there was a sauce that they had put on after they were grilled. The rice was fragrant and perfectly cooked. All very good experience.
The food was overrated and overpriced. Do not believe that the hype about this place!!! I had better fish tacos at Rubio's, this is fast food. The waiting period from when we ordered until our food arrived was very long. We sat inside what was good. There were many tables inside, so the place was not busy. The service was terrible. We had to refill our water and drinks as the server is over. When the food finally arrived, only half of our party received their plates. The other half had to wait another 15 minutes, which we had to ask for, because the server ignored us. Since half of the people at our table had just finished their food, the other half finally got their food, that was KOLD. We had to help the tables because the service was so bad.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Dukes. The food was good, but the dessert cake was incredibly delicious. The coconut was also amazing. The staff was also super nice. I recommend reservations and ask for the table on the terrace on the rail. The view is breathtaking.
Amazing view to fit with the food. To begin my party divided crab ties and Korean short ribs while sipping perfectly mixed Mai Thais. Everyone loved their fiancées. I got a salmon dish that was cooked for perfection, a lighted, crispy skin, not burned and full of taste. For Dessert we shared an important lime cake that had a delicious crumb and a slice of Hula-Pie that has a biscuit crust and Macadamia nuts ice. 10/10 would definitely recommend.
We went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We had reservations for 3pm. This place has a separate Brunch menu for the weekends. The appetisers were really good. We ordered for the fried calamari and the poke tacos. The cocktails were really nice and stiff. The view of the ocean from here beautiful. Overall it was a good experience however they can work a little bit on the service part or probably it was just the server at our table.
