"Bought pies, salads, porridge and chocolate to take back to rental cottage. Absolutely wonderful food actually nicer than the eye watering costly meal we'd had out in Grasmere the day before and for a fraction of the price. Pies were Lancashire cheese and onion and the Dhal Gobi. Delicious. The owners were lovely too even though my attempts at the self serve bit were poor. And the chocolate selection wow. You will definitely turn your nose up at the overpriced, sugar laden stuff sold elsewhere in Ambleside after eating the brands they stock. Not cheap but actually worth every penny. You get what you pay for and this place stocks healthy,tasty fuel not calorific rubbish."

"This review is strictly on the afternoon tea experience only. The food was absolutely wonderful, the lady who served food and the male staff (presumed the owner) were both very kind and friendly. I felt that the afternoon tea was an absolute treat since there was nothing to fault with, that was only until it was ruined by the rude woman who was driving past in black 4x4 (presumed female host). After we finished the afternoon tea, I decided to let my dog out from our car to let him stretch his legs before we set off, the rude woman mentioned above asked me if I was looking for a public footpath so I answered no. She then started to lecture me about the ‘no dog policy’ in the property as well as pointing a direction to the public footpath I did not ask. She drove further towards the car park and parked there, got out of her, and started to tell me off in the most rude way possible again. I explained that we just had an afternoon tea here and we’re about to leave. She then turned around started to take stuff out of her boot mumbling loud “stupid..blah blah” in the angry tone, which by the way was clear for me to hear even though I was at least a few feet away from her. I was so bewildered and frustrated at how this perfectly lovely experience went down the hill like this si quickly. Hence I took two stars off even though I did enjoy the food here. Whoever that woman was, please make sure that they cannot behave that way to a guest."

"Probably one of the best ice creams I had in the usa! the vegan choc skyberry sorbet and carrot cake are two delicious aromas! if they are an ice cream lover, the generous creatures will not disappoint them!"

"The cafe is nice and provides good food but some prices are unreasonable. £4.00 for 2 slices of buttered toast but an extra £1.00 for jam or marmalade is a bit tight. Come on Lakeland, do you really need to Milk customers for the small amount of jam it would take to make the toast a good option."

"Popped in for dinner on our first night in Keswick as we were staying just down the road and this place had caught my eye straight away. It certainly lived up to expectations; the cow pie was massive and filled to the brim with lovely slow cooked beef. Made my way through most of it and took the last part home with me as I was kindly offered a takeaway box. Proper pub atmosphere in the bar area and a nice large, secluded dining section. Both our meals were great and pretty reasonably priced, good selection of cask ales on too. Staff on the night were all gents, particularly Stanley who served us throughout and was helpful and attentive the whole way through. The other lads were great too and all up for a chat, which is always what you want in a pub like this. My only slight issue would be that tips can only be left in cash; which while generally the preferred method of hospitality staff, is somewhat unusual these days to be the only option, and I can imagine means the hard working staff lose out on a decent wedge because of this. This is clearly a brewery/ownership issue though and having spent a number of years working in pubs myself, one I imagine could be easily rectified with some tweaking of the POS system if the bosses really wanted to- perhaps reviews like this will end up making a change there.
