"We were given 45 minutes to order and eat our food. Entree was brought out after main course. Fried rice looked like it was made from the kitchen scraps. Drinks were cans with no ice or a glass. Expensive. A waste of 45 minutes and...$90 for 2 adults and 2 kids."

"Ocker food is exotic for a city dog like me. In Melbourne, I can eat lamb cutlets grilled with Greek spices, or done up in all sorts of Muslim culinary preparations, and according to many other ethnic recipes too. But the traditional country style, breaded and fried with gravy? I haven 't seen that in the Big Smoke. Too rustic for city slickers, I suppose.<br/ <br/ That 's why I thoroughly enjoyed the lamb cutlet plate I had when I bicycled up to the Beverford at sundown, tuckered out from too many kilometres fighting a headwind along the Murray River highway. This pub is 100% ocker, with a collection of Akubra hats on the wall, painted ripsaw blades for decor, even a mounted buck 's head with a 6-point rack of antlers. The publican said its name is Ralph. The Beverford isn 't one of those places where an out-of-towner with an un-Australian accent like me gets a hostile vibe when they have a chat. It 's a friendly, homely joint.<br/ <br/ The three thick cutlets were prepared simply, pan-fried with a layer of breading, drizzled with brown gravy, on top of some seasoned mash. Very 1950s. But you didn 't hear people in our grandparents ' days complaining about 'Where 's the oregano on this lamb? How I wish I had a time machine to travel to the year 2015, so I could drizzle my lamb with pomegranate molasses! ' The three veg mix and the little piece of corn on the cob were also done in the 1950s way, unfortunately, which means they were boiled soft enough that gramps could have chomped them even if he forgot to being his dentures down from the attic. Some cooking techniques HAVE gotten better with age. But overall, I was rapt to take my mouth down memory lane here."
