"You must go. Never been before? There's lots of easy access to beautiful views you don't even have to leave your car before you're greeted by wild ponies. Been a few times but unsure? There's a wide range of walks and activities with forests, rivers, lakes, tors, valleys, pubs, clapper bridges. In the summer you can have a swim in the wild rivers, with the popular spots being close to the car and the less so spots being a short walk. You can scramble and climb on the famous Dartmoor rocks, camp under the stars (make sure to check the laws and areas you can camp on first! , and there's so many free places to park that you only have to walk a bit more from. The beauty alone is worth going. Seriously, you have so many possibilities with such a grand empty space, there's no reason not to."

"One word FABULOUS, celebrated a very special birthday the staff couldn't be more attentive! We had the 10 course tasting menu too, which was amazing very filling, lovely experience! We also had a free upgrade to a suite which was another wow factor on entering the room, unbelievable views few treats which were another lovely touch! Thank you Gidleigh we will be returning"

"When this restaurant first opened it prided itself on its good cooking and variety. The proprietors claimed to be trained chefs. There was a good variety of choice with very good salads to accompany the meal. As a vegetarian it was good to have a varied selection. Now, there is just a choice of curry or two other dishes, if they are actually available. This choice of curry has become a popular option on pub menus, but it shows a lack of imagination or consideration. Last niggt I ended up with singed nut roast a very tired option) and conventional vegetables instead of something tastier with salad. There is normally a vegetable lasagne, but they had not bothered to make any. A very limited and dull selection. They also started out offering old fashioned, but fun deserts such as peach melba and banana split. Not any more!! A shame that they no longer make the effort to inspire and attract. The Welcome Stranger has become the ' I can 't be bothered. '"

"Beautiful cosy cafe. Came in for lunch after a blustery rainy walk up to bonehill rocks and back. Great vegan options (had sweetcorn fritters) and we shared a lovely cardamom bun. The food and all the service were super quick and efficient. Thanks for a lovely time!"

"A fabulous little gem. The food is sooo good We booked a table for 6 of us and baby. Most of us had a burger and omg they were massive We also had 2 pizza's. I've never seen pizza's soo big in a pub The chicken wings were lovely. Lots of sauce and lovely and moist. Thank you for a lovely meal"
