Trani is a less discovered but very beautiful and worthwhile stop. But what made the visit extraordinary was lunch at Memento. Refined, highly creative cuisine at its best, “narrated” by a charming and committed chef. Extraordinary eggplant and pasta dishes, so good we never got to secondis. Lovely setting in the heart of the old quarter, short walk to the sites. Definitely recommended.
Domenico is unsurpassed in creativity and quality. The Amuse-Bunche alone where worth the 6 hour train ride from Florence. Each dish surpassed the one before. And, his wine selection is excellent. If I only had 1 meal in Trani, it would be here.
We were warmly welcomed by the young team and the chef himself. Seated at a nice table by the window. The chef himself took our dinner order and we asked him to surprise us with a 4-course seafood menu. We started with fresh oysters on our request, followed by the surprise menu. A beautifully presented trio of amuses and some home-made bruschetta, followed by tuna tataki in sesame crust. Then polpo with grilled salad leaves on a bed of puree with a home-made teriyake sauce. Then delicious tortellini. Dessert was a very tasty ricotta/icecream/crumble, served very cutely in a flowerpot. Each course was beautifully and creatively presented and absolutely delicious. Wine list is extensive and we enjoyed a nice bottle of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut. This restaurant is a must-visit when in Trani. In my opinion Michelin should visit soon, because the food is on that level. The prices are not. Very good value at €45 for a 4-course dinner or €65 for a 6-course dinner.
Spectacular dinner- great service, lovely attentive chef and brilliant food! We had the tasting menu and it was a truly great experience! The melanzane ravioli with prawns was a particular standout.
