I recently dined at Bay Marie, and was pleasantly surprised by their unique approach to serving food. Instead of ordering off a menu, the selection changes daily. The man working behind the counter was very helpful in guiding me on what to choose. The restaurant operates on a self-service basis, so you will need to scrape your own dish and possibly wash your plate afterwards. The prices are very affordable, making it a great budget-friendly option. The restaurant is located in a neighborhood with a strong Hindi/Tamil influence. If you are a westerner, I recommend bringing your own cutlery and avoiding drinking the jug of water provided.
This is a great hotel offering vegetarian options at affordable prices. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the establishment was clean and hygienic.
Discovered this hidden gem near the bus station. The prices are incredibly affordable, like 130 rupees for a huge serving of rice and curry. The restaurant also offers a wide variety of other dishes on their menu. It was a truly authentic experience eating with our hands. We absolutely loved it.
After a long bus journey, we decided to dine at this restaurant, which is conveniently located just a 2-minute walk from the station. We arrived for lunch around 1pm and had to wait a short while because the rice had just finished cooking, but it was definitely worth it. We ordered the vegan rice and curry, cooked with coconut oil. The restaurant did not provide cutlery as Sri Lankans traditionally eat with their hands, but we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
The food at this restaurant was incredible and one of the best we had in Sri Lanka. They offer a wide variety of fresh dishes to choose from, and we even ended up taking some with us for the next day. The pricing was very reasonable as well.
