We were rather disappointed because the restaurant we intended to go was closed and found this lovely restaurant by pure chance. The place is so authentic; the wood panels and the furniture are old but not shabby and you feel the charme of old times. The owner is friendly and welcoming and even if his English is not excellent he managed to explain in details all the different dishes . This was the only restaurant in... View all feedback.
What Dejon Daugherty doesn't like about Gschamster Diener:
They speak just a few words of english so it is hard to communicate. In almost empty restaurant (us and two more tables, 6 people in the whole place you have to wait for the waiter to remember there are guests in his restaurant. At...least he tried to be nice .. in german. Sehr nett von ihm : (I googled a few words to help me understand him . Learned a lot. The food? Edible. That is all. Wiener schnitzel and potatoes... We were looking for dinner somewhere and wandering past this beautiful place and thought we would try. This place is a step back in time beautiful mild floor plates, newspapers to read, curiosities on the wall. We were ordered immediately by a beautiful gentleman and drinks and food. The portions were large and tasty. We enjoyed our visit here very much and would go back to the next visit to Vienna.
I agree with some reviewers here that the service depends on who serves you. Because I had no luck in service. He hurried and said everything we ordered. The calf was hard and lukewarm. The goulash soup was filled with small bones and fat pieces. Only the carbonated lemon juice was good. I lived in Vienna for eight years, and that was for me, not an authentic Austrian cuisine.
