What linguistbrit doesn't like about Lingenhel:
We were visiting Vienna for the first time and following the recommendation in a guidebook for lunch. The food was very high quality. A short menu and difficult to understand but all the dishes tasted good. I have seen other reviews which comment about the price being high I believe that you get what you pay for and this occasion was no different. However the whole visit was marred by a deserted atmosphere, with no a... View all feedback.
Here, products are more than excellent and the place is really nice. We appreciated the cheese, the wine and also the tartare. Prices are normal for the quality offered. The only thing we didn’t understand was the service. We came here looking for the best Austrian cheeses and cold cuts. I booked the table two or three weeks before, after a deep research of what we were looking for. We had high expectations about this place. As regards the wine, we asked about a glass of a typical vineyard. The wine was served without showing us bottle and label, it arrived at the table already in the glass. It was good, however. When I asked if we could have a plate of cold cuts, the waitress said they don’t serve them. I though yes, at the entrance there is a counter dedicated to them and in the pics of other clients I saw them... but ok, they don’t serve it. Pity but let’s move on. We ordered a plate of cheese. We asked about a plate with all the best cheeses from Austria they had. We didn’t mind about the price, we just wanted to experience Austrian cheese (that’s why we went to Lingenhel). We also asked about the buffalo mozzarella. What arrived at the table was an excellent plate of cheeses where there were also cheeses from Germany and Italy and the waitress said “sorry but they are not all from Austria”. Well, we see. There was also taleggio and we are Italians. Why if we ask cheeses from Austria, we get other (really good but not asked) cheese? She could tell it to us before. The buffalo mozzarella never arrived but we were not interested in asking it anymore. I swear the quality of what we ate was amazing and this is why I don’t mind to rate it badly: I could see the passion and the interest in looking for the best products. I just want to say that we didn’t have what we were looking for.
This is a deli/shop with a restaurant at the back. It is fairly quiet with a relaxed atmosphere. You can order 3 courses for 39 Euro or a la carte items. Everything we had was delicious and the staff were friendly and helpful. The passionfruit burrata was outstanding.
