What Paul Johansing doesn't like about 1789:
Long standing Georgetown DC restaurant. Prix fixe 3 course menu so evaluation of food a bit limited. What I and my dining companion had for Thanksgiving was good, choices quite limited on a special menu. While waiting for our reservation and with the restaurant and bar being over crowded, we were shown to a comfortable open space and our pre-dinner drinks were brought to us. All in all a very pleasant experience thro... View all feedback. What Marsibil Hlinis likes about 1789:
We were gathering for dinner prior to a show at The Kennedy Center. We had to leave right at 7 and had no time for dessert. However the pastry chef sent out some lovely treats. View all feedback.

1789 is that perfect mix of DC's old and new: the restaurant offers a modern, yet elegant menu, served within the historically-rich walls of a beautiful
I would give the service and food 3.5 stars but that is not an option.

The food was always good, but last night every dish was excellent. All four of us were thrilled

read moreThe long-standing Georgetown restaurant offers a prix fixe 3-course menu, making the evaluation of food somewhat limited, according to some patrons. While the Thanksgiving meal had good options, choices were quite limited on the special menu. The restrooms were small and down a narrow hallway. The plates were expensive but decent, with prices ranging from $40-50 per dish. Some customers were put off by an extra fee added subtly to the menu. Despite this, the service was exceptional, and the overall experience was pleasant for many. The food received mixed reviews, with some finding it mediocre while others praised it as exceptional American cuisine. However, the ambiance, service, and cocktails were highlights for all guests. Overall, the restaurant is considered one of the top dining spots in DC for its old school charm, impeccable service, and delicious food.
Wonderful experience. Great service and beautiful ambience for the holiday season. Strolling carolers what more could you want!
Exceptional service, fine dining in a warm and historic environment. Would highly recommend.
