a beautiful antidote, alpine feeling in northern Umberland. great hotel, nice hot bath and view of the river all and surrounding hills from the window. excellent staff, with lonely advice, local history advice and good sense for humor. What Jim Ellis doesn't like about The Elk's Head:
If you like gourmet pubs/fine dining, then this is more for you. The menu was limited, but there were a lot of specials on the board. Can't fault the quality of the food, but if you're after pub grub (bangers and mash, scampi and chips, etc. then this isn't one for you.
