"I am on a million step walking challenge for charity and today I walked 7 miles around the Gravesend and Medway canal ending up in the ship and lobster fir lunch . A well needed pint of john smith and a fantastic lunch . I had a Kentucky chicken wrap , spiced rice and coleslaw while Andy gad home made onions rings , jacket potatoes beans and cheese and we shared a fresh salad. We sat outside looking over the Thames relaxing. I love this pub ! Every visit over the years has been superb . A real Londoners pub in kent ."

"We visited this diner with kids. The menu is brilliant, so many food combinations to choose from and of course you are welcome to customise your plate too. Prices reflect the variety on your plate and offered choices so in that respect they seem okay. However, we felt overcharged as some of the ingredients are of such poor quality or just carelessly cooked. The eggs were a huge disappointment, pale like if these were from caged hens, and so overcooked, tasted like rubber. And the salad, smelled just as if it was washed in dirty water. Or just off cuts! Enjoyed sausages and especially the mushrooms were nicely fried but baked beans seemed so sweet, almost inedible. We won’t be returning again to this place I’m afraid, almost half of our food was left on our plates so not good economy."

"We used to visit this pub whenever in this area of town as it used to have plenty of tables, a good range of ales and a lively pub ambience. However, we visited last October and it was dismal really gone downhill with only one beer and no customers. All the reviews around that time tell the same story. Unsurprisingly we haven 't been since. However, I heard it had changed hands so popped in to give it another go. It has certainly been reformed, with a new landlord taking over about Christmas time. There are two ales on tap (not as many as when it was good, but enough) and a number of customers that revitalised the pub atmosphere. It has had something of a makeover, with a large settee and arm chairs in one corner where formerly there were tables. OK for any who want to lounge comfortably or fall asleep, but my wife and I are at the age where if we sat in these seats we would never be able to get out again, so we avoided them. However, although this slightly lessens the table space we did get a table, enjoyed a few drinks and was pleased to see that it has changed for the better. As such we will certainly re instate it as a pub to visit when in the area. I have some difficulty with rating places like this which are good but are they 'very good '? The prices were about average, and the service was no better or worse than you would expect in a decent pub (so about average). The range of ales (2) were what I would hope for (so about average), as was the ambience, although no better than a good pub. Therefore as TA for some reason does not allow for a rating of 'good ' I have rated it as average on the basis that this means 'good but fairly typical and nothing special ' rather than anything negative."

"Another fabulous cheese and onion toastie the best toastie in town! If you go for breakfast I really recommend the veggie breakfast (and I’m a meat eater! Staff were very friendly and helpful."

"I have just enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at The Copperfield. The food was freshly cooked and of a high quality. We took a huge breakfast of unlimited toast, fried eggs, bacon, beans, sausage and coffee all for about £8 each! The visit was made special by the delightful Pippa, who was helpful, efficient and excellent company. She was much better than my friend Nige, who is hopeless. We will definitely come back again!"
