"Callum the waiter although very busy doing bar work as well, he was very polite and attentive. The food was very good, but the chicken burger was so big that I only managed a slight reduction in its size . The restaurant was a bit chilly, but overall a pleasant evening"

"I’m giving this a 5* review because the effort in keeping customers happy and the potential for this to be a great, off-the-beaten-track get away is huge. The landlord, Dan, is aware of the improvements needed and has a great attitude and fantastic plans for the pub’s future. The overnight stay was comfortable and excellent value. Bed was comfy, room was warm and breakfast was delicious. Really friendly place (even the locals were welcoming) and I will definitely stay again when I’m in the area."

"I have been here a few times with a local friend. Small cafe, cozy, great service, bear in mind your clothes may stink of a bit afterwards (my only reason for a score)...it is a proper café for fry ups and excellent ham egg...and chips. Run by a couple. Reasonably priced. There's a big menu for choice, cold and hot drinks. Access is via a step so unsure how a wheelchair may get in...please ask beforehand. Pushchair can be lifted... If you are a tourist then things to try are the Full English Breakfast...or my favourite...ham eggs and chips (see photo). Not for diet days! "

"Taste of food was fantastic, very creative use of ingredients! Several dishes on the vegetarian menu faded me, so I will definitely see again! We were recommended to fish and chips. It is really well done, but not exceptional, so I would give that a miss in view of the other options on the menu. I won't fail the service, even though I felt a little protected, so still 5 stars for the quality of food."

"Had a very disappointing lunch here today. 1. On arrival at 11.50 there were only breakfast menus out, causing chaos, but soon rectified. No longer a menu displayed on the wall which everyone could have looked at at the same time. 2. There were no fruit juice cartons for the children which would be free with their meal were just abruptly told to have flavoured milk (which our 2 don 't like and are unhealthy) or water. No apology or price reduction, just told they were out of stock. It 's half term there are going to be a lot of children there. 3. Three out of 4 meals were not as ordered. The ham and cheese ciabatta had no cheese (this had to be replaced and then eaten when everyone else had nearly finished), the tuna and spring onion filling on jacket potato had no spring onion (a bowl of chopped spring onion was brought), and for one child 's meal I requested the beans in a separate bowl this was written on the order but didn 't happen. The plate was taken away and came back with the beans (now cold) in a bowl but the sausage still covered in bean juice. I know this may seem finicky but a lot of children have an issue with it luckily we gave up at this point and she just ate it. 4. The salad consisted of just green leaves apart from one sliver of carrot. 5. No children 's pizza, which they had been looking forward to as have had before because they 'only have that in the winter ' ??? What is that about? 6. The water dispenser has been moved and you now have to push through the queue to reach it. Any one of these would be mildly annoying, but it just seemed to go on and on and was stressful. Have had minor issues before, but never like this and we feel very disinclined to eat there again. On the plus side, the food was reasonably tasty, especially the chips."

"Eight friends were visiting the nearby Pendon Museum and needed a lunch break. Liam and his mother were super helpful. A private room a good selection of beers (including Butcombe) and a comprehensive pub lunch menu. Those who had the sausages and mash were still talking about them as we drove home to Somerset! The Fishpie was full of fish including smoked haddock, with plenty of cheese and a giant prawn for topping. The burger was pronounced excellent too. The Abingdon brewery Loose Cannon was remarked upon too. Large Sauvignon Blanc went down well too. We did not give more than a couple of hours notice for our visit but received a warm welcome. Food and drink were exceptional. A great pub."

"A friend had recently moved to the area and myself and another friend were visiting for the weekend. After a walk up to The White Horse we looked for somewhere to have a bite to eat, this lovely pub looked like it ticked all the boxes. It was certainly busy when we arrived, which is always a good sign. We enjoyed salmon and dill linguine, mushroom and courgette linguine and fish and chips. We enjoyed all meals and there wasn’t a scrap of food left on the plates. The portions were generous so we really did it justice. Washed down by a very palatable glass of wine. The service was good, friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend a visit."
