Ambiance is low on our scale. Service just needs to be adequate. But food portion sizes and quality ALWAYS have to hit high marks. You know how truckers know about a good place to eat? They seek out the restaurants with the most Asian customers. Ly Luck rocks!"

"Not as trendy or upscale as the newer Korean restaurants in Alameda, Jong Ga house serves solid traditional Korean fare in old locale on Lakeshore Avenue in oakland.The building and interior is reminiscent of an old restaurant you might see in downtown Seoul. The downstairs is devoted to BBQ with a few tables for other dining. Theres a room upstairs for non BBQ diners. It's an old karaoke room.Food wise, we liked what we ordered with the exception of the fried chicken . The seafood pancake was good with a hefty portion. Pan fried oysters were cooked inside a scrambled egg pocket. Fishy to some, delicious to us.The fried chicken appetizer was not good..soggy on the outside and dry flavorless on the inside. Avoid this one.The short rib beef bone soup was fantastic. Smoky and intensely flavorful, it's delicious. It's pricey thoughAs with most Korean restaurants, everything seems to be made from scratch. Its labor intensive and that probably explains the higher prices.Portions are fairly and Prices are moderate as Korean food can get expensive.They have an all you can eat BBQ offer as well.similar to Gogi time or Gen BBQ.Street parking can be difficult and the neighborhood is a little gritty, especially at night.Jong Ga has been around for a long time. I expect it to be around for many years to come. Give it a try if you find yourself in the area."

"It’s kind of hilarious because I truly never write reviews and decided to look this place up to grab some food after work. The owner literally sees me walking up, turns around and locks the door. Walked back a minute later and put up a sign saying gone to lunch. I understand that everyone has breaks and time is needed but the way it was done is what counted to me as very unprofessional. Actually glad I didn’t spend money here. Most likely won’t come back."

"I do not appreciate the lack of menu choices and the cook is not willing to meet the needs of its guest AT ALL. We made our reservation 3 months in advance. At this time I took note of my food allergies/aversions. 1. No paprika, 2. No shellfish. With three months warning, I felt like the cook could have arranged an alternative for me. But no, three of the eight courses came with raw and/or damped shellfish. Instead of offering me an alternative protein, subtractions were simply made from my dishes. When I paid the full price, I found it unacceptable. The soya dish was blazing, but the food was otherwise fantastic. My partner enjoyed his mussels. The service is excellent and her sommelier was a pleasure. We won't come back here."

"They used to be the spot with consistent flavorful sauces and quality of seafood. The last couple years they've become pretty inconsistent of being good to super watered down. The last visit seems or tasted like they changed their recipe. The crawdads we got this order were perfect though, large good head butter and some have hella eggs. The shrimp is shrimp, they always tell us they don't have head on shrimp or they do (some waiters sometimes tell us they never serve headed shrimp). The clams we got this time tasted like the frozen ones. Def get a side of rice and scoop some of the sauce with a spoon full of rice to absorb all that flavor."
