"This restaurant has changed a lot and moved since I went to it as a hole in the wall restaurant. It now has more of a street presence and a few more tables. The cuisine has definitely changed to satisfy a more meat-centric and less indigenous-appreciating clientele. It is not that different from any other fine dining experience, although it has a Mexican flair. They do understand veganism. Unfortunately, if you are a vegan, you get a lovely and delicious series of vegetable dishes, and when I was there, no grains or beans. So you leave, ready to have a protein bar in about an hour. For that reason, I would drop the rating to 3 stars if Happy Cow would let me. My dining companions had meat with almost every course. 7 courses for 1050 pesos now, much cheaper than a fine dining experience in the US or Europe. Make a reservation through the contact info on their Facebook page. This was my first review in 2019 This restaurant is literally a hole in the wall. You enter an unassuming corridor under the sign to find a tiny dining area with 4 tables. Holler “Hola” if you don’t see anyone around. They easily accomodate vegans. No menu. They serve a 5 course meal of the day. Very unique indigenous flavors and herbs. Cost was 300 pesos at the time of writing. Updated from previous review on 2019-12-27"

"Suitable for vegetarians. They were very accomodating to top the tlayudas with nopal (cactus). Great place to try warm tlayudas against the background of live music and jamaica (hibiscus) drink for a good price! Very smoky location and poor ventilation unfortunately. Other food like tostadas was not served warm. Pay in cash or expect to be charged 3% extra for credit card payment."

"We wanted to try the Tamal de Mole, Guacamole (with chips), and the Mezcal Espadín. Everything was really fun and tasty! The tamale was beautifully presented on a grape leaf and a side salad while the guacamole came with chips that were baked (rather than fried) to a minimally oily perfection! Smaller portions are on the small side, but getting the Mezcal really makes you enjoy the food in a slow, more appreciative way. Oh, and if that beautiful black dog is sleeping on the front door steps, don’t try to pet him. He’s a happy stray that prefers his space over tourists’ hands."

"This place is our favorite restaurant in Oaxaca. We had brunch and dinner here. The food is phenomenal. We had several tasting menus in Oaxaca, but this restaurant is definitely the best in town. Adult in cities and had a lot of top Michelin star restaurants. But honestly, this surprise near our hotel is completely out of our expectations. The richness and depth of taste are something that shows the food cultures of Mexican cuisine. The El Cuche and the tomato salad are a must."
