"I stopped in to Nelson Basel after they had just opened for the day. The bartender, a young lady, was very friendly in welcoming me as she was making the sidewalk signs. There are some sidewalk seat and as you enter the pub and down the stairs there is the bar with stools, lots of seating, a separate and enclosed smoking room, a rear open-air patio set against part of the old town wall, two dart board games and more.On the beverage menu are beers on tap, bottled beers, cocktails, mixers and a little bit of rock music thrown in. I had a small Feldschlosschen Amber (5.50CHF,) which was a nice, refreshing beverage on a warm day. I was the only person in the place at opening and I enjoyed the atmosphere. They offer free Wi-Fi. I don’t know what the later evening crowd is like, but I had a good visit and would recommend."

"So as a surprise Mother's Day present my daughter took me to Basel last Saturday 13th May for 2 nights, not aware how expensive eating out is in Switzerland. However on our many walks we found Flanagan's, the first night we only had a drink but on the Sunday afternoon after a 5.5 mile stroll we stopped for food and thank god we did, compared to the Saturday nights meal at a different place this food is amazing. We both decided on The Slider Board which we had to ask what it was, I thought it was a choice of either burger but it's 3 mini burgers well they say mini but they are bigger than that, the pulled pork is just mouth watering and I have never had pulled pork before or buffalo chicken, which again was fab not too spicy. It's cooked to perfection, we returned at night for drinks and bought the Flanagan's toastie to share and again portion size it is very good I was glad we were sharing it. The staff are chatty and polite and couldn't do enough. Cost wise it is very good for the portions and quality served. So if you go to Basel please try this place as you won't be disappointed."
