"We found this jewel randomly at the exploration of the Libyan coast of kreta. it looked super charming and welcoming from outside so that we gave it a chance. Spoiler alarm: we could no longer shake over this beautiful place with its sitting area next to the sea. it is so beautiful and the personal is amazing friendly and helpful. we wanted a light lunch and chose several appetizers and white wine. we had humus, fava, filled wein leaves, filled zucchini blossoms and the aubergine. everything came with homemade white brot. the owner was beautiful and made sure that eating was vegan. could not be happier or more satisfied by these traditional Greek antipasti."

"In the tourist areas along the coast from Rethymnon, this taverna stood out because of its variety of vegetarian dishes. Most places are heavy on the meat and fish, although there are usually one or two naturally vegetarian dishes (often a Greek salad and perhaps something like zucchini balls), but this place had a whole vegetarian section in its menu. The food was good and not too expensive. If you're staying in this area Kellari is a better bet than most of the others along the main road we walked up and down quite a way from our hotel in both directions checking out lots of different menus and this one was the winner for variety."

"I totally recommend this place for many reasons! The food was really good. It was quick. The service was really kind and friendly, we felt their passion when they were explaining their menu. The place is a bit distant of the crowded lake which make it quiet. You can also take your kids with you as they have a beautiful garden with some toys."

"Based on the description on Happy Cow we went to Mones for breakfast assuming they would know what vegan meant. There was only one breakfast option the waiter was able to recommend to us, so that's what we went with. The breakfast that was brought to us contained honey (for toast) and biscuits I very much suspected were not vegan and as I confirmed with the waiter (who consulted the kitchen) they were not really able to tell, but suspected at least the others probably contained egg. The actual vegan items of the breakfast contained, orange juice, a small bowl of fruit, another of plain ground dry oats, some coconut milk (for the oats), a few slices of toast, cucumber cubes, tomatoes, olives, olive oil, couple of small dishes of jam. The price was 14€ tip and we left the place hungry. Perhaps they have nicer options and more knowledgeable staff at dinner, but for breakfast this place was a flop."

"We were seated in the beautiful garden which is covered by large trees providing shade, creating a calm and serene ambience. The waitress and owner Julia was very friendly and accommodating. She specifically asked if my parter is vegan after taking our orders, to make sure everything was going to be correct we felt very welcome and accepted! The traditional Greek food itself was exceptional. The menu is largely vegetarian and vegan, with some animal based dishes in between. Everything is well marked (v for vegetarian, vg for vegan). Let me just say that the vegan Moussaka is to die for! Nothing feels like an afterthought. The vegan dishes aren't just traditional recipes with substitutions stuck inside, but are well rounded creations filled with flavor. The meat dishes are fantastic too, so it's a great place for mixed groups of people to go to. I would have liked to give the Taverna Garden a full 5 stars, but happy cow only allows max. 4 stars for restaurants that aren't 100% vegetarian/vegan. Updated from previous review on 2023 07 30"
