"It was Valentine’s Day and all other restaurants were full. These guys already had their door locked but let me in. Served me a special grilled pork and a small beer for 9 euros. Incredible food and value."

"This is a wonderful hidden gem, which does a limited variety of pastelaria (always a good sign), each one of which is as good as you will ever find. Very pleasant young staff and the pastéis slightly different from the usual in that the pastry is slightly thicker but beautifully crisp, so that the contrast between the smooth custard and the pastry is more marked. Don't pass on the local queijadas, too."

"Tucked into courtyard with displays of cork art, it appears that this small cafe only serves coffee...but they do much more. The lentil salad was delicious alongside a cool rose wine. Sitting in the courtyard was an oasis, with a few tables set for dining under a canopy of trees. Lovely place for lunch."

"Breakfast. Explains we were vegan and were offered the avocado toast without egg and the hummus toast without egg. We were charged the full price of 7 euros for a piece of bread with a spread on it. It was a big piece of bread and was cooked with sesame seeds and cut open green onion, which tasted well, but we let hunger and feeling torn off. I think I have seen a vegan açaí bowl on the menu, but if you are looking for a vegan savory breakfast option, I would skip this place."

"During our stay in Evora and stroll through the old city we were looking for a light lunch and stumbled upon Mercador Do Pao. It was almost 3:00 (when they close for midday) yet the owner was extremely welcoming and invited us to order. We had the best sandwiches of our trip. While we didn't order anything terribly unique (a tomato and cheese sandwich and a ham and cheese) they were delicious. Extremely fresh on a perfect baguette, with friendly service. The restaurant had a wide variety of options on the menu, including soups, hamburgers and sides. While we stuck to the basic sandwiches they were delicious and serviced with warmth and friendliness. Would highly recommend for lunch of light dinner when in Evora!"
