"The food was fine. It was our first time at Tahona and we were looking forward to the Chef's tasting menu. I will say that the server was friendly. But that's about all I can give them. We were given no instructions or expectations, and no food allergies or preferences were requested (one of us doesn't eat sugar). Just an acknowledgement that we were getting the tasting and that he'd get our drinks (we didn't even know what was coming On several occasions when one of the two servers brought our food, he couldn't remember what it was or what was in it as he was describing the food. The food was okay. It wasn't bad. It wasn't exceptional. And it certainly wasn't special. It was just a sampling from the existing menu. I've been to other chef tastings that were similar, but more dressed up than this. It felt really phoned in. Service was also really sparse--as if they were busy. But it wasn't. The restaurant was almost empty. It's not a fancy place, but I did expect more attention than we got In short, it was alright but we won't be eating here again. San Diego has so many great and good restaurants--Tahona didn't give us a reason to believe that it was really one of them."

"This place was absolutely amazing! The service was nothing short of perfect; we were sitter quickly and our order was taken quickly, our server was also friendly, helpful, and patient when we weren't sure what we wanted. The ambience inside is low-key and intimate with vibrantly colored plants and a view of the kitchen from the inside dining area. This place truly exemplifies the vibe of the area. Now for the good stuff, the food: We had crispy fried green beans, warm house bread, a bottle Coke, and peach tea to start. The green beans were light and crispy and the sauce they came with tasted amazing. The bread was like a little warm cloud served on a board. It was obviously served right when it was done and the difference was clear, this bread was delicious! For our main entrees we had the Cardiff crack burger with truffle fries and the Encontro burger with chips. One bite of the Cardiff crack burger and it's clear it really lives up to the name. The meat was juicy, tender, and endlessly flavorful. This was easily one of the best burgers I've ever had. The Encontro burger was also amazing, the sauce was perfectly balances and the brioche bun was airy and delicious. The meat on this burger was also cooked perfectly and oh so juicy! To finish off the night we enjoyed the butte cake--this thing was no joke! We ordered it after it was highly recommended by our server and it was served so aesthetically with delicious fruit puree adorning the plate. The cake itself was rich and sweet. The ice cream on top was the perfect compliment and it was a perfect end to a great night at Encontro! I recommend this place to anyone looking for something delicious and the variety to choose from."

"Had a blast at this BBQ joint in San Diego. Sabrina, our server, charmed us with her quick service and knowledge suggesting the Pioneer Fries and Brisket. The foosball table kept the kids busy while us adults guzzled beautifully smooth peach cobblers. Talk about delightful! Violating diet restrictions never felt so rewarding – portions generous, taste tantalizing. So folks seeking warmth, lip-smacking BBQ with live band performances, look nowhere else!"

"The full experience. Even the restroom is elegant. The lines can be long so waiting is not unusual. Visually excellent and the food is amazing. The best pancake that I have had in quite some time. The souffle pancakes are interesting. I had a chorizo scramble and a pancake and it was quite good. Very busy so the staff was not always easy to get but they tried hard and were very professional. A must do experience."

"As almost any previous reviewer said, on each given basic they have a sweet torte (e.g. apple crumble) and a savory (only ever seen roasted vegetable curry.) their cale smart is also vegan. the cakes are very tasty, and I have always gone there and happy to know that the sweet curry cake would be the one I would get. they also have some beautiful, high quality coffees (Pour-over, espresso, etc.) was always happy with the staff. they use metallutensilien, which is beautiful, and they also have a small terrace outside. directly next to stella jean’s, which has some amazing vegan options, so if they really want to pamper themselves, visit them both! updated from the previous review to 2019-12-28"

"This is the second time that I found a foreign substance in a drink ordered here at Taste Tea. Last week, there was a piece of plastic (from a cup lid) and this time I got a piece of zip tie in my drink. This is incredibly dangerous, especially for younger people. The drink safe-making process here needs vast improvement and quality control."
