"This is the perfect place to finish a hike in, particularly as many trails lead to it. There are always vegetarian options on the menu and if there isn 't a vegan option immediately obvious they have always been able to make something. I would recommend phoning in advance to ask and give them a heads up, its not essential but they do seem to appreciate it. However if you plan to go on Sunday be aware that the vegetarian options are usually quite reduced, sometimes only down to a vegetarian roast (which is very yummy) and one other, with vegan options being one of these veganized. The cuisine is 'British Pub ' but a lot better than you would get at many of the other pubs in the area. Also of notes is that they are a free-house but don 't drink Harveys (the locally brewed beer) as it is not even vegetarian. The setting is below the cliffs and I suggest asking a local or staff member for the story of how the pub got its name! It is next to a main road and this makes the otherwise cosy beer garden a bit less special. Overall though this is the nicest pub in Lewes. If you are visiting Lewes not only is this your best option for vegetarian but also really your only option for Vegan food. Everyone is welcome, this is not a local. They also sell dog-treats and is a dog-friendly pub. If you are planning to go for Sunday lunch get there early 12:00/12:30 as the place does not take bookings and gets VERY busy."

"I booked a table for us to have something to eat after we’d been to Aglow at Paradise Park. The menu has a great choice but not so much it’s overwhelming. The pie of the day was chicken, bacon and tarragon so three of us went for that and the fourth person went for fish pie. It’s not super fast service but it’s all homemade food so I would t expect that. Definitely no pre made microwaved food here! The food was absolutely delicious. The pub were also great with my nut allergy but with the food being homemade they know exactly what’s in it. I will definitely be returning because there are so many other things on the menu that I want to try!"

"Great asset to Seaford. Are more reliable than the other fish and chip shop in town in that they are more likely to be open and still have some fish left. Fish and chips are tasty with sensible sized portions. Remember they are cash only."

"Partner and I stayed one night in lewes and enjoyed some independent food vendors during the rest of our trip, decided to make the best of a cash-off voucher and to eat at express pizza. beautiful personal offered vegan menu on request. I tried the new vegan funghi pizza and minze arancini eier starter, which was delicious and had the new vegan funghi pizza for porn that was super garlicky beautiful! very fresh pizza, “cheese” well mixed as milk cheese would, good amount of vegetable toppings."

"I have my moms in the royal oak our village pub, so disappointed ,no gluton free eating as ordered when he was quenched quite gruffly said that I did not order, said eating that in the offer was not of a...big standard and certainly not worth money. I'm so disappointed that my mother didn't have the farewell she deserved."

"Had a lovely meal in this restaurant on a weekday lunchtime. Curry Goat Rice Peas, Plaintain were all cooked to perfection. The restaurant has a nice cosy feel to it with reggae music playing in the background. Very attentive staff who are very friendly."

"This review is about the lunch service and menu only. A nice friendly reception on entering the bar which was busy, noisy and a nice atmosphere. Decor was clean and pleasant. Then we ordered lunch .... Steak Ale pie, Gourmet chips, peas and a jug of gravy. The pie was very small but hot and not microwaved. Gourmet chips ???? I don’t think so. More like Tesco value chips. Perhaps they should Google gourmet chips. Peas were hot and plentiful and gravy ok. I asked a gent about the gourmet bit and he insisted they were, I’m a cook and know my chips !! I then ordered another coffee and after 20 minutes had to go ask for it as they had forgotten but no apology."
