"Usual high standards of food. The service was however very poor, had to chase waitress to take orders for drinks, mains and deserts. Still one of a favourite places but let down this time by the service and awful table by the back door which was freezing."

"Haven’t visited since Jan 2020 Had read the recent reviews but was prepared to give it another go, as really love it for my birthday though they didn’t know that Check in was smooth and Majeck ? was delightful, good start. Room was fabulous room 1 Dinner was good, food lovely, though staffing is a bit sticky but friendly. Great nights sleep, could not fault the room or location of it. Breakfast was triumphant cooked by Triena sooo delicious. I’m so happy we went back 5th time I realise they are having staffing problems, as are many places in the current climate but would say to upper management, look after the two that made our stay memorable for the right reasons. We will return."

"Not as good as we had expected. The pub has a nice warm ambience and the staff were welcoming and efficient. The food we got (especially the beef pie for two) was fine, but the choice was limited. We came on a Saturday evening and there were no steaks or partridge available from the short regular menu, and almost all of the blackboard 'specials ' had already sold out. Our goulash starter arrived cold and the bread came with a minimal amount of olive oil. Wine and other drinks were served in cheap tumblers and only one of the half dozen non alcoholic beers listed on the menu was available and it came in an unopened can. £200 for four."

"Super service where our wishes were met, although not on the menu. The food was delicious, I had lamb that melted in my mouth and my partner had chicken that was really well cooked. The only thing I would say is that the portions are quite small, so you are not afraid to get a starter first or a delicious bowl of bread and olives and a diving pot of Aioli!"

"Really disappointing visit we waited for 15 minutes for drinks and when we received the menu, the majority of the items had expired. very small set menu for a Sunday, initially said that it was enough for 1 chicken Sunday roast and then said it was not only available to provide the waiters 2 chicken roasts on the next table! my daughter pizza was not available after we had ordered and my son had steak of the children's menu, that was tiny he starved! the place was also freezing, I was really disappointed"

"An idyllic country pub only 10 minutes walk from the city centre. However the ideal is to pair the visit with a from wolvecote walking down port meadow and entering via a magical pathway from the river. We really enjoyed our food but only wished my main came with some carbs. If you are visiting internationally make this a stop for dinner while you visit."

"This has got to be one of my favourite restaurants in Oxford. The food is always beautiful and staff are always so friendly. We don't live in Oxford but everytime we visit we always try and eat here! The menu has great choice and plenty too chose from whatever you fancy. We got the Tartiflette and Chicken Liver Pate as starters and both were delicious. The Tartiflette was a creamy baked potato dish topped with cheese and herbs and served with bread, a lovely starter. The pate was also lovely and had a great texture and was full of flavour. For mains the duck was the stand out dish crispy skin on the outside and soft tender meat in the middle. Lots of meat on the bone too. The bean cassoulet underneath was amazing, so flavoursome and the chorizo really complemented the duck and the herby taste from the beans. Also ordered the fillet steak and a side of truffle mash. Best mash I've had! Creamy and smooth but the truffle taste isn't overpowering. Wine list could be a little better but managed to find a lovely high rated wine named Lucali Appasimento. Definitely recommend to red wine drinkers. Fantastic meal overall as always and would recommend to anyone looking for a nice French restaurant in the Oxford area. Looking forward to my next visit!"
