"3 of us often meet here. the reason why we do is that eating is a cut above normal pub chain food. I was recently at the prince of wales jarrow and there is no comparison. I had makkaroni cheese with a beautiful dressed salate. the salat in the prince of wales was plain salat. great service and welcome from the staff espe ially the lady I also spoke. I'm the old guy with white hair."

"Where to start! Not a soul in the Gibraltar Rock this evening and we were the only table. The waitress was impatient and kept wandering off when we were trying to decide what we’d like. Myself and my year old daughter had a carvery...and chose turkey. The turkey was so off it smelled exactly like dog poo (which my daughter pointed out) and she was entirely accurate; and to be honest we noticed this a few mouthfuls in. It smelled SO bad that it was hard to keep the food we’d eaten down. When we addressed this, the waitress whisked it away without a word, or an apology and emerged a minute later from the kitchen agreeing it was totally off. They then picked up the whole turkey and put it in the bin in front of us. We sat there horrified. We were nonchalantly asked what else we’d like to eat with no word of an apology, or query as to how we might be feeling after the hazardous turkey. Then the waitress decided to waltz off while we deciding if we could even stomach anything else. We sat there in disbelief at the whole thing! When approached, the waitress became snappy and argumentative and said we didn’t give her long enough to offer us an apology. She shouted about working there for many years and that she knew best. She didn’t back down and became very rude. Never experienced anything like this in any restaurant- anywhere! We all decided to leave. Gibraltar was always basic and food accordingly so- but this is a new low for them."

"Visited for the first time just before Christmas with family. The staff provided a great welcome and service throughout. The food was both flavoursome, well cooked and plentiful. The menu isn’t huge but all the dishes are fresh full of flavour and utterly delicious! The slow cooked beef shin curry with peanuts was my favourite. A full range of ice cream sundaes awaits for dessert. Thoroughly recommended for a delicious evening meal in relaxed surroundings"
