"Dined May 2017
I usually come here at least once a year. It has been very consistent for a long time. It is becoming more targeted towards rich Chinese diners who will spend hundreds or even thousands per person.

Reservations at peak times generally incur a wait time in the tiny waiting area.
Service is efficient but brusque.

Whilst mainly known for being a seafood (live tank) restaurant, I think this is the best Peking Duck in Sydney, and reasonably priced at under $90 or a half serve is also available. It's also one of the only restaurants left where you can actually choose the 2nd course of your duck.

Live pippies and mud crab tonight was delicious and well executed.

BYO is a steal compared to the wine list at $8 per person (unlimited bottles).

I don't think they've changed their business model, or refurbished much over the years (except targeting Chinese diners), and they haven't had to as it's still as busy as ever."

"It was late, we were tired and hungry. There were a couple of spots that we walked by where there was a wait out the door so decided why not give this place a shot. There were maybe 2-3 other tables of customers when we arrived, and they had live music in the back, which was SO. LOUD. I could barely hear what my mom was saying and she was literally a few feet away (plus we were sitting all the way in the front of the restaurant)! And I was definitely yelling over the "noise" trying to figure out what everyone wanted to eat. The food was OK, nothing to write home about and I could have sworn my Thai iced coffee was a regular iced coffee but they claim it was the right thing. At the end of the day, we were fed and the music had (finally) stopped. My advice, take it down a notch, please, for the sake of your customers."

"Tonight I dined alone as I have business in Sydney for 2 weeks. After 30 years of supporting this establishment I had the worst service history of all time. 10 minutes for a menu to arrive. Peking Duck plonked on my table and 5 minutes...(then cold) for anyone to bother to come and serve it ; obsolete as I did it myself ; same for the dang choi bow 2nd course. Incompetent staff who seem directionless. Will be a long, long time before I think about a further visit ; better venues to go to . Smarten up Golden Century, no accolades since 2017 and not a surprise !"

"The gruff tone of your online booking confirmation email warning that your table will be released if you're more than 15 mins late is a bit disconcerting. But once you survive that this is an experience to be recommended. Pricing seafood by the kg can...also be a bit mysterious if you don't know how much your lobster or fish actually weighs, but the waiter can ell you that your fish is usually between 750g and 1 kg whilst your crabs and lobsters will be between 1 kg and 2 kg. These can be cooked to your preference we had the lobster in garlic butter and te coral trout in soy, ginger and shallot sauce together with a special fried rice and some prawn dumplings. The live seafood is shown to you still wriggling in a plastic bag with your table number on a peg holding the bag closed. It then goes off to the kitchen to be prepared and returns surprisingly quickly to be deboned in front of you and, in the case of the lobster, pre cracked into bite sized pieces with a nutcracker supplied for the legs. On the day we visited the market price for lobster was $138/kg and for Coral Trout $188/kg. Don't let that put you off, especially when you are in a group and are all sharing. Although the food was piping hot the air conditioning was way too cold. Luckily with only a few tables occupied at 7 pm on a Wednesday night I was able to ask for the temperature to be set a little higher but that was theonly thing I could criticise. Of course the quality of the food is what counts and you won't be disappointed here unless you have guests for whom the idea of eating what was shortly beforehand swimming around in a tank is unappealing. Otherwise you could not possibly get fresher fare!"

"The legendary Chinese food court! I have been coming here for years, since I was a kid. It is the best sizzling hot plate in Chinatown, trust me. This shop is always the busiest in the food court, but the food is delicious!! ????"

"Before you say 4 really ...?!? I want you to understand "context". This was not just a normal meal in the eight, but part of the Miss Chinese Australia Sydney Pageant, so throw her cooking for 30 tables hat cooking for 350 guest at the same time ....
Grief Now let's be honest, banquet food in this scales is ideal Grief But this night was definitely the unicorn ...
Grief Foie grass stir fried snow crab ... pumpkin butter lobster ... salted egg shrimp ... the fish two ways and usual the fried rice, pasta, sorted BBQ meat plate and whole roasted chicken.
Grief This snow crab was an excellent ... I am glad that my other guests were very busy seeing the bikini grain competence ... and well, the whole crab was basically my - score! Grief Grief The rest was above average and honestly, I'm pretty surprised that I came out of this meal you need one !!"
