"We have a chalet in Wengen and have enjoyed Mary's Cafe over many years. However until last Saturday we had elected not to give them our custom - probably for the last 4 years - following a very unfortunate episode where, as part of a large group, our pre-ordered quails (Sunday speciality) were given to other guests and we were left waiting without explanation for well over an hour. Regrettably instead of explaining the situation; there are many other perfectly acceptable menu options to select from, the owner chose to be aggressive and rude. Anyhow, my wife and I decided to give the restaurant another go on Saturday at the end of a ski week. The restaurant is well situated on the ski slope where the Lauberhorn race ends but it is also a pleasant walk from Wengen for non skiers. We were seated at one of the outside tables; the seats are covered in animal hides and sheepskin - in the warm sunshine. A new addition was the playing of a traditional music 'squeezebox' by an accordionist. There were plenty of waiters and waitresses on hand and the service was excellent, very friendly and attentive. I had the potato soup and local sausage which was tasty and filling. My wife chose a family favourite at Mary's Cafe, the tried and tested alpen macaronni served with apple sauce."

"So, let's start with the food. The sandwiches were great. Also, the pastries and chocolates very good. But, I'm guessing when you are the only bakery in town, your staff don't have to worry about customer service. I was afraid to come in a 2nd...time, because we were treated so rudely the first time. And I live in New York. I'm used to bad customer service. But alas, the 2nd and 3rd time (because, hey, this is the only bakery in town) the service was once again terrible. It's like she couldn't believe she had to serve you. As a long-time Trip Advisor reviewer, this is the first time I have been critical about a business. I take this role seriously."

"If you want something else and would like Italian food, this is the place. The food is really good, the best pizza's in town. When you're more interested in pasta, thats fine. They have a nice Gnocchi Prosciutto Funghi (ham and mushrooms) and good spaghetti's."

"We loved going here and would recommend it for the experience of being on the glacier. We found the good good and other visitors very friendly. It's definitely rustic so don't expect a shower or your own bathroom but the mountains are spectacular. The staff was rude, and seemed angry all the time, never interacting with guests except to charge a lot for water and reprimand us for asking questions. There is no good reason for their behavior and their terrible treatment of guests was our only disappointment. We recommend to go but don't expect a warm welcome. Also, check out us at 7am. If you're not up at 3am climbing a peak this is useful to know"
