"What a lovely , cosy pub. We were made to feel very welcome . A traditional pub with roaring open fires and an excellent choice of beers and spirits. Also very dog friendly which is always a bonus . We had a delicious meal on our last nights stay in East Whitton and after several recommendations it certainly didn’t disappoint . Simply delightful … thank you for making us feel so welcome and keeping us very warm cosy on such a cold wet evening. Will definitely return."

"What a lovely place to stay. The building is an old Quaker’s meeting hall so is as you would expect from a very old building. The location is fab, handy for the car park and the high street. Now for the bar, modern stylish and classy at the same time. Great wine choices. It’s really nice to go walking across the moors then go to the room, shower and dress up because the bar is so nice you want to glam up a bit. The restaurant wow! Well I’ve been to some well known fish restaurants in the north that everybody goes on about well this beats them all. Gosh it was a nice break and whilst the walks were brilliant I remember that meal, the wine, the elegance and the cheese board!!!! well done to the team for working so hard, for taking the risk to invest when all the odds with C19 were against you. You can be very proud of what you have created in Hawes I just need to book again"

"Food was lovely, the taste was great but in my opinion expensive. We didn’t receive a particularly warm welcome, we felt we were a bit of an inconvenience as we hadn’t booked and the lady wasn’t sure if she would be able to squeeze us in. She said she could fit us in in the end but that we’d have to order very quickly before the next table arrived. We agreed, we knew what we wanted but then she didn’t come back to take our order for another 15min so it all felt a little awkward. We enjoyed what we ate but to me the bill for the 4 of us was overpriced for what it was."

"Stopped for a sandwich and a drink here after visiting Jervaulx Abbey, as this is the only eatery in Middleham that 's open on a Monday. On reflection I wish we 'd gone on to Leyburn instead. My pork and apple sandwich had clearly just emerged from a fridge, as the shop bought bread was as cold as the jarred apple sauce and 2mm thick layer of butter centre. The pork had a couple of crispy bits, which was nice, but this was outweighed by the massive chunks of fat and sinew, which were considerably less nice. The sandwiches were brought out without cutlery or napkins, and no indication of where these could be found. The bowl of chips we ordered were brought out by a surly middle aged man in a checked shirt who I assumed was the manager. They were dumped on the table with a sullen There 's yer chips as Mr Grumpy turned away and walked off without offering salt or ketchup, or indeed checking to see whether we had cutlery. We had to ask for salt and ketchup, and even then, only ketchup was produced. To be fair, the chips were good, but that 's about all I can really say. I was about to comment that at least the sandwiches arrived reasonably quickly, but given that they seemed to have come straight from the fridge, perhaps that isn 't surprising. Next time there 's nothing else open in Middleham, I 'll just plough on to Leyburn. I 'd strongly advise other potential visitors to do the same after Mr Grumpy 's attitude, you 'll have a very different view of the warm Yorkshire welcome that apparently exists in guidebooks."
