"The worst food I have ever had in Sydney. While strolling through Chinatown, we stumbled upon this place and considering the place has existed since 1975 (as they claim) we thought of giving it a try. A disaster. All that the staff cares about is getting the guests in. Post that they don't give a dime. The set menu that has a fried dim sim,spring roll, boiled rice (a small bowl) and a main (I chose chicken in black bean sauce) was awful . The dish tasted weird with double the salt and straight out of the freezer. Forget about it being expensive, it is close to being inedible. Horrible experience. Giving 1.5 on 5 for the reason that I forgo"

I was passing through Chinatown with my brother and cousin, when the man from this restaurant CALLED us inside. But when we ordered just one serving of dumplings, he very rudely said that it would take 20 minutes. He probably expected us to leave, but when we didn't, he actually DROVE US OUT by saying that we can't eat here unless we order more food. <br>

I have never encountered more rudeness and arrogance anywhere else in Australia. Seriously, I don't understand why people still dine here. The staff lack basic manners and etiquette. I'm pretty sure that if we were Asian or Australian, he wouldn't have treated us like garbage. I will definitely advise my friends and family, to stay FAR away from this so called 'New Chilli House' crap. <br>

For the first time, I'm disappointed that Zomato doesn't give us the option to give a ZERO rating."

"My favourite place to get dumplings- can't go wrong with the pork and chives. And the braised eggplant- AMAZING! super cramped to eat in there but for me that's all part of the experience. Wouldn't look to go here if you're looking for ambience or somewhere romantic but its become a regular brunch place for me and a friend!"

"Tonight I dined alone as I have business in Sydney for 2 weeks. After 30 years of supporting this establishment I had the worst service history of all time. 10 minutes for a menu to arrive. Peking Duck plonked on my table and 5 minutes...(then cold) for anyone to bother to come and serve it ; obsolete as I did it myself ; same for the dang choi bow 2nd course. Incompetent staff who seem directionless. Will be a long, long time before I think about a further visit ; better venues to go to . Smarten up Golden Century, no accolades since 2017 and not a surprise !"

"Off the busy street of Chinatown, you feel like you have been transported back in time. Beautifully decorated place with friendly service, there is an array of dumpling dishes both traditional & modern. There is also a huge list of delicious, traditional main style dishes like classic crispy Shangdong chicken, braised pork belly & pipis in XO sauce as well as a range of stir fried rice and noodle dishes. Only so much stomach space so this time the choices were the more unusual Chicken XO & Beef with black pepper dumplings. Both had glutinous transluscent skins encasing delicious unusual flavours. The chicken dumplings were delicious with the addition of XO sauce & dried shrimp the beef dumplings reminded me of a philly cheese steak with finely chopped steak pieces topped off with cheese. The classic pan fried pork dumplings & xiao long bao are done well, bursting with soup. BBQ duck lotus buns are delicious, like peking duck inside a soft, slightly sweet steamed...

"The Marigold has been one of our favourite restaurants. The food was always magnificent as was the service. However this has clearly all changed. What a horrible experience. Yesterday 23rd May 2021 we decided to have Yum Cha at the Marigold. Big mistake. After queueing for almost an hour we finally got a table to only be completely and utterly ignored. No one was interested in serving us as all the waitstaff was fawning over one table and not interested in anyone else. When I tried to get attention from the waitstaff they simply refused to call management and continued to ignore us. Furthermore the few items of food we managed to secure was rancid. Granted we should have looked at the latest reviews and saved ourselves from this horrible experience. We will NEVER be going back there and I strongly recommend others to give this place a very wide berth."
