"Well we walked in and found a tiny table to seat 2 people with little space around it. The waiter(6”4 with a deep intimidating voice came up to us and asked if we’re ready to order? As we couldn’t see a menu anywhere we said no and could we see a menu. No he says we don’t have one as we change on a daily basis. He then decided to reel off various things we could have like cheese toasty that we could add too. Cakes various. Vegan something or other. Eventually stopped at drinks. I’m sorry to say we won’t be going back, although the food was OK it was nothing to write home about and our friend didn’t come across as very approachable."

"We called at this restaurant as we were passing through Richmond. Having seen the latest reviews we were not expecting much. However we were very pleasantly surprised it was superb. Friendly staff fast service and great food. There was a constant stream of customers collecting takeaways. The tables were all reserved in the restaurant so does seem to be popular. Advise you to book Friday and Saturday evening"

"What a lovely , cosy pub. We were made to feel very welcome . A traditional pub with roaring open fires and an excellent choice of beers and spirits. Also very dog friendly which is always a bonus . We had a delicious meal on our last nights stay in East Whitton and after several recommendations it certainly didn’t disappoint . Simply delightful … thank you for making us feel so welcome and keeping us very warm cosy on such a cold wet evening. Will definitely return."

"Went here for lunch with my husband and we both had a pork, apple and gravy ciabatta. It was really yummy and came with chips and salad. Couldn't fault the food. The staff were also really friendly and we felt very comfortable there. :"

"The owners who actually run the cafe were very helpful ,explaining some of the meals on the menu. Although quite small there was enough space for all the customers. Service was quite quick. It is popular with serious bikers Several came in whilst we were there and were quite amiable. We looked at other places offering lunch and they were very expensive compared to this cafe. It is well worth a visit if you are in Hawes. We enjoyed visiting the cafe."

"What a gem! We’ll definitely be back to visit. Sat out surrounded by beautiful flowers. So peaceful, just the sound of the sheep in the background. 3 of us opted for the ploughman’s sandwich. Really fresh, with a creamy coleslaw and delicious salad on the side. Enjoyed lovely coffees teas with a tasty fruit scone. Great, friendly service. If you haven’t been, try it!"

"Stopped for a sandwich and a drink here after visiting Jervaulx Abbey, as this is the only eatery in Middleham that 's open on a Monday. On reflection I wish we 'd gone on to Leyburn instead. My pork and apple sandwich had clearly just emerged from a fridge, as the shop bought bread was as cold as the jarred apple sauce and 2mm thick layer of butter centre. The pork had a couple of crispy bits, which was nice, but this was outweighed by the massive chunks of fat and sinew, which were considerably less nice. The sandwiches were brought out without cutlery or napkins, and no indication of where these could be found. The bowl of chips we ordered were brought out by a surly middle aged man in a checked shirt who I assumed was the manager. They were dumped on the table with a sullen There 's yer chips as Mr Grumpy turned away and walked off without offering salt or ketchup, or indeed checking to see whether we had cutlery. We had to ask for salt and ketchup, and even then, only ketchup was produced. To be fair, the chips were good, but that 's about all I can really say. I was about to comment that at least the sandwiches arrived reasonably quickly, but given that they seemed to have come straight from the fridge, perhaps that isn 't surprising. Next time there 's nothing else open in Middleham, I 'll just plough on to Leyburn. I 'd strongly advise other potential visitors to do the same after Mr Grumpy 's attitude, you 'll have a very different view of the warm Yorkshire welcome that apparently exists in guidebooks."
