"Dos Casas, Quebrada 101, Centro, San Miguel de Allende, Gto., tel. 415-154-4073, e-mail: [hidden email], web: [hidden link]. There is a new chef, Dina Butterfield, and we had a very nice lunch inside, looking at the unusual art. We were the only ones there at the time...and the service was good. We ordered the Marlin Semi Ahumado con aceite de ajo y chile morita (M$95 . The semi-smoked marlin is from La Isla in San Miguel and it was delicious. The dish was well presented and well prepared. The other dish we ordered was Pasta with Roasted cauliflower, ricotta cheese, pine nuts and golden raisins (M$95 . The ricotta was a bit over-whelming but Dimitri finished the pasta with no problem. The cauliflower was particularly sweet and delicious. We had a mango crumble for dessert that the dessert eater (Dimitri didn’t like (he doesn’t like crumbles . We spent M$230 and we were happy. (We were also happy to learn that one of our favorite bakeries and restaurants—Cumpanio—is owned by the same people as Dos Casas. The second time we went, we went for dinner with 2 other couples and we thought that Dos Casas was disappointing. Our Beef Carpaccio was uninspired. The tuna was okay, but not particularly tasty. The 2 teaspoonfuls of couscous with it were silly. And there should have been a vegetable. On second thought, Dina Butterfield doesn’t “have it”."

"For a high end restaurant food was fair. Martinis had to be remade. Ordered dry but got mainly vermouth. I had the wagyu flank which was good. The puréed parsnips were delicious, I think! Since there was only a bite it was hard to tell. My partner never received his order. They didn’t have the wine that was suggested to go with each entree. Very disappointing. We will not go back. It was way too expensive to take another chance."

"I may have just caught them on one of those off days but service was poor, borderline rude. Asked for my coffee con Leche, had to ask for the leche again five minutes after my coffee was cooling down. Understandable that a waiter could make this small forgetful mistake, so I didn’t react with annoyance."

"Really, the burgers sound better than they are. Very bland and tasteless. Fries are of the frozen variety. Service is OK. Personally, as much as I hate to even say this, I’d rather have a Big Mac."

"La Choperia was not typical pub grub. We went there three times for lunch. The Portabello Salad was very good the wife had that twice. We also had the fahitas with both beef and chicken. The beef was surporsingly tender and not cut to...microscopic thickhess. Beer was ice cold. And I liked watching football (soccer) during the meal. And it was reasonably quiet so the wife and I could chat."

"Had a scrumptious dinner at Maria's last night restaurant is small with s funky beach vibe. Mario greeted us and talked to us about the menu. We wee served salsa and chips the highlight was a smoked marlin salsa - really different and very good I had cerveche mixta- mix of scallops, octopus, shrimp and fish - made to my spiciness request - media most tender tasty cerveche I ever had anywhere including Lima Peru. My husband has mahi mahi in garlic sauce with salad and cream mashed potato. He clean his plate and finished my ceviche. Good house wine and bottled beer. Diner for 2 with 2 rounds of drinks was 600 pesos- a steal for the quality. Our new go to seafood place. Go you won't regret it"

"We were super excited to find this place. The restrooms were fairly clean, as was the dining area. Service was friendly and proficient. The menu was short and had few options. We tried all of the Margarita flavors, ceviches, octopus, snacking platter and nothing was what we had expected. The top award goes to the snacking platter because they had chili coated grasshoppers which we'd never tried before. The remaining dishes lacked spice and depth. The octopus tasted like mint. The margaritas all tasted smoky. The ceviche was saved by excellent mango. I'd be lying if I said I wanted to try this one again. I'm a bit disappointed. The reviews really placed this one on a pedestal that it couldn't live up to."
