"One of the few places we found with vegan food in this small town of Shibu-Onsen. The staff were super helpful, just ask them about their vegan menu and they'll give you a list of vegan options! It was great when it was ridiculously cold and snowing outside and we didn't want to go far to eat. Decent portions/price and the food was good, but it is more western style food."

"Update: came back a few weeks later, and the management really seemed to take my feedback to heart because this time it seemed better ventilated and not so full, also with a lot of people. Good job! Up to 5 stars! Original review: A fun place to take a drink or coffee right at the foot of the gondola. The hot chocolate I had was exactly what I wanted after skiing all day. When we left, it was very crowded, which it was rather clogged, so that ventilation could be improved. But all in all the drinks were good and the staff was very nice and spoke English."

"Onpoint madarao is all we have been looking for for for a long weekend in nature. both my partner and I are vegan. everything we had to do was that justin and kaori know in advance and they really went beyond and beyond to create a menu for us. each single meal was an amazing experience from different aromas and textures, all plants based and made home. the breakfast was western style, while the Japanese style was dinner. on the last day we had lunch in the lodge and we tried the pulled mushroomburger. this was the hands down the best burgers I ever had, 100 vegan and full of taste. after the long walks and all the cycling during the day, back to a hearty meal prepared with the freshest ingredients is everything they need to charge! I recommend to them in any case for the breakfast dinner package when they choose their stay! the lodge itself is wonderful, with a modern design and a feeling of warmth throughout the room. we were in one of the superior rooms that have a double bed and a private bathroom. the room and lodge in general are super clean and with stylish furniture and finish. Justin knows the opposite exceptionally good, so he can be in the position to go on the spot and do activities while they are there. Justin and kaori are both very attentive and friendly, it was a joy to meet them. we will definitely be back in autumn and winter for more trips to the nature and relaxing time in onpoint madarao! updated by the previous review on 2020 08 23"

"Can make a vegan set with muffin drink soup the vegetarian mains revolve around french toast (egg). Mixed fruit veggies French toast was very nice. There 's also berry berry and apple french toasts. Soup portion with set meal was small but tasty was tomato with various veggies. Coffee quality seems good. Caramel latte was quite like butterscotch, and went down well."

"My husband and I spent 4 nights here at the end of December, 2016. They have 3 lovely hot spring baths: an outdoor rock pool which was incredible while it was snowing , an old, indoor covered one with traditional, high wooden ceiling, and a small, private, indoor wooden one with a large door to outside. The staff were really kind and carefully prepared us vegan meals, including 2 onigiri rice balls person each day +500 yen per person . They asked us as soon as we arrived to confirm what we could and couldn 't eat, and were very considerate about everything. The food wasn 't really fancy, but it was still nice and we were satisfied especially for the extremely reasonable cost of ~11,000 yen per person night, including dinner and breakfast! We had a simple but pleasant room over-looking the outdoor courtyard, and enjoyed exploring the small town and area during the day. 5 mins around the corner there is a funky cafe called Chamise Cafe and Space were we were able to get vegan soup and drinks during the afternoon as well. "It was described on their website and also here that business hours is until 7PM, (last trip of gondola return ride). However, we went there on a Thursday, went up the gondola at 5:40PM, and at 6PM, you can't order any food anymore at the cafe, except some drinks, and I was told that I could drink till the store's closing time of 7PM. However, all customers except us went down the 6:20PM gondola (each trip is 20minutes apart), then when we noticed it's only us who were left, we rode the 6:40PM return gondola, and the restaurant's staff also rode down with us. Upon reaching the station, reception windows were already closed then upon disembarking, the staff turned off all the lights and the gondola itself. It was 6:50PM, and everything was shut off and staff went home. I guess they don't have to be open if there's no more customers, so it's better to change the business hours to until 6PM (instead of 7PM, at least on Thursdays). Nevertheless, we were lucky to have seen the sun setting beneath the clouds as we were going up the gondola and for a good 20minutes upon reaching the summit. It's just disappointing to not have eaten nor drunk anything that night. I guess the sunset and night sky would be best seen if you time your visit on days that they have starry night cruise package (it's supposed to be until past 8, including food and drinks at the cafe). I will surely be going back for another experience, hopefully during autumn when I expect to see various colors of the vegetation depending on the elevation."
