"This restaurant is a must in chamonix. in a sea of moderate or worse restaurants in chamonix, comptoir is a stellar standout. it would actually be a superstar in the food scene in every city. eating was the close eyes while they taste kind of good. the service was impeccable, well maintained and extremely friendly. in addition to all those who sommelier absolutely crushed their pairing recommendations. when you go to cham, go to comptoir. "We went there to celebrate my husband’s birthday and had high expectations. It’s nicely decorated, but environment was a bit stiff and not so welcoming. It had an amazing start. The risotto with truffle and the langoustine and caviar appetiser were divine. It got us...so happy and exciting initially. Then there’s an amuse bouche, something with mushroom and coffee mousse. It was so strange, the mushroom didn’t taste good itself, and they didn’t match with each other. We hardly finished half of it and it totally ruined the appetite. Then we had the poultry which was for 2 persons. Before serving, they proudly brought out the pot to impress us. It didn’t smell amazing (hardly any good smell) and we felt it’s so odd. Then after a long time, we were served the chicken breast. It was tasteless, and mine was very dry. We were so disappointed and decided not to have dessert. They gave us several petite desserts but none was impressive. Last but not the least, staff were often ‘missing’, not there to help you with the food or wine choices, or when you need anything."
