With a little spare time in Auckland and my sister and I popped out to Mt Eden village, and found this gem! It quite made my day. There was even a young writer...

"OMG. Amazing food, stunning presentation, great service. This is fine dining at its finest. Non traditional flavour combinations that just work and aren't overly fussy. It isn't cheap but the memories will last!"

"World class restaurant. Better than many of the restaurants back home in Los Angeles. Each dish was a perfect combination of flavor, texture, and temperature. Each dish is farm-to-table and the main ingredients are traced to a nearby location in New Zealand. The dishes are clearly thought out carefully, but the kitchen is also run efficiently only a few minutes between courses). In particular, we had the oysters, salmon, asparagus, deer, lamb, strawberry sherbet, and papaya pavlova. Everything was wonderful, but the deer and salmon stood out. The pavlova had an really interesting texture and temperature gradient. We ended up paying $150 NZD $90 USD) each, and it was well worth the money."

"Dinner at Renkon is always satisfying, large portions and low prices. The Karage Salmon (9.5/10, $12.50) was beautifully cooked, soft and tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. They were super accommodating and swapped the rice for more salad at no extra cost. The Karage chicken (9/10, $12.50) came with lots of chicken and was tender and juicy. Definitely a place I will come often."

"Lovely interior! Popped in here one rainy morning for coffee and it was such a neat little space. I had herbal tea and my friend had a flat white. Will be here for the food menu in the future."

"Best place to go to before and after a show. They’re so helpful that they would ask what time the show we’d be watching is on. It gets quite busy but the staff is very accomodating no matter how many people I’ve come here with. As it is yakitori style there are a lot of skewer food to choose from. Some favourites include chicken hearts, deep fried cheese and of course good ol’ takoyaki! Warm sake is a perfect partner to these of course but there’s also umeshu (recommended for sure) will keep coming back especially for a Japanese food lover like me!"
