"We've visited 1863 on several occasions and it continues to be absolutely wonderful, small and perfectly formed. It's great to see the same knowledgeable cheery staff each time we visit, the service is spot on. They have an excellent non-alcoholic drink menu which is surprisingly rare, as the regular designated driver I appreciate this enormously. Food is top notch, tasty and beautifully presented, I can’t recommend this place highly enough."

"This found during the search for penrith for another previously visited in the year 2019. this little caffe, which is worn away, was excellent. on a bike tour from carlisle en route to blackburn and into a fab cumberland rubbed in a ciabatta roll. definitiw on my list for penrith when I come back"

"Visited April after the reopening. The setting is lovely on a large veranda with views of the lake. Vegetarian options are unfortunately disappointing opted for a ploughman lunchtime sandwich, which turned out to be a couple of toast slices with grated cheese, some chutney and crisps on the side plus undressed salad. With better options nearby, not my favourite"
