"January 23rd we visited The Oar House in Rockwall, near the Harbor. Established about 20 years ago, The Oar House is simply Rockwall! I give this place 5 stars and here’s why: the Oar house is quiet, romantic, cozy, rustic yet elegant, with authentic wood floors with brick and cobblestone accents. The décor and authentic feel of an old, expensive cruise ship is strongly represented here. Think Titanic meets pirate ship. The crisp, white table cloths give The Oar House a formal nuance while the rustic floors and ceilings balance out the ambiance with a more relaxed feel. The prices are on the high side but the food and service are impeccable! For appetizers, we had the large, button mushrooms filled with veal and seasoned with a lovely balance of rosemary and thyme in a creamy tomato sauce which was perfect for dipping our fresh garlic bread. We also shared the baby clams in a creamy sauce. I’m not much of a shellfish person, but the sauce on these was delicious! Each week, the chef at The Oar House, puts together a special menu that is ever changing so I ordered sole, garlic mashed potatoes and a perfectly cooked veg medley from among the few “Chef’s Choice” dishes. The fish was cooked to perfection! This came with a side salad which was fresh and delicious! Duane kept it simple with a bowl of lobster bisque and he described it as rich with multiple layers of flavor, the best he’s had, and a cross between lobster bisque and roasted pepper soup, which sang to him! This place is going to be one of our favorites! We were invited to return for lunch, as the menu is slightly different. "Great first visit! Chips and salsa and queso were great start to a fantastic dinner. I had the chicken fajitas (perfect flavor) and the husband had one of the many special enchilada plates offered. We already know what we will be trying on our next 2 visits!"

"This place is okay. The mole was not authentic. It tasted more like Chile Colorado. But the Guiso de puerco was quite delicious. Queso's good too. We could go back."

"We waited in the front of the line for about 20 min for a salad and some nuggets. We ended up just pulling off because every car behind us was receiving BAGS of food before us. "I am so sad to find this German restaurant is going to close down in three months due to lease contract. In my opinion, it is so much better than Henk's on Northwest Highway. The owner, Mr. Klaus, is very friendly and attentive to all customers. He treats all customers walk in his restaurant with a big smile and asking about their days and how he could serve them. My friend and I don't drink, but I bet the German beers at this restaurant are good. The food we ordered was delicious. My friend had the Hungarian gulasch and I had the schnitzel. The jaeger sauce (cognac mushroom garlic sauce) on the schnitzel was the bomb. I couldn't resist and ordered a piece of fresh baked sweet plum strudel. It was the best strudel I ever had. I will definitely come back for more before this restaurant closed for good. You should make your way out to Rowlett to try some. I promise you will not regret it."
