I phoned on a Saturday evening on the off-chance that they had a table available.... they did, but the kitchen closed in 20 minutes from my call (at 8pm). On arrival, the staff were most welcoming and accommodating. We both had fish and chips, which was excellent, followed by a Basque burnt cheesecake with rhubarb compote. Well presented hearty food served by friendly staff. View all feedback.
What Daisy429 doesn't like about The Ancrum Cross Keys, Ancrum:
The beer 'Foxy Blonde', now called 'Blonde', was a completely different color than I remember. It seemed more like an 'Amber' or 'Dark Horse' rather than a Blonde as described. Does the brewery owner even know what is being served at the pub? View all feedback.
Excellent friendly, service, great food. Had coffee(s) and a main meal. Would highly recommend it to anyone looking for good food very reasonably priced to boot.
Been meaning to try here for a while and it didn't disappoint. Staff were friendly and chatty. Christmas menu had lots of choice, all the food we had was amazing, goats cheese starter was fab!! Peppercorn sauce to die for with the steak really tasty! We will definitely be back (soon hopefully)!
We were on holiday and looking for places to eat with our dog close by to where we were staying. We popped into this pub and asked for a table and were seated in a really lovely cosy room. The girl serving us was delightful and super friendly and helpful, despite being on her own and rushed off her feet. My daughter and husband ordered the burger and said it was really great and I got the veggie curry and it was nice but not the biggest and was quite hungry. We then shared a cheeseboard and my daughter got ice cream. The cheese board came and was a decent portion and that filled me up. Really lovely meal and enjoyed it very much.

We received such a wonderful welcome and received excellent service. The food was superb and we enjoyed it in the beautiful gardens along with our dogs. Such a lovely and pleasant visit.
