We almost missed having a drink in this Hook Norton pub. It was closed but the owner turned up to open the place just as we were about to leave. He was very welcoming and friendly. The beer was good as was the small beer garden at the rear. The Hooky Gold was lovely! View all feedback.
What Charlotte N doesn't like about The Eagle Tavern:
I stopped by The Eagle for a quick bite and was very disappointed with the food. The chicken wings looked old and tasted like they were cooked in dirty oil, not to mention the overwhelming hot sauce. My friend's nachos were topped with jalapeños and sour cream that seemed off. Bar food should be simple and easy to do well, even on a budget. I won't be returning and suggest they hire a new chef. Ordered the fillet chicken burger with BQ sauce, etc. Chips were cold and had obviously been cooked sometime ago (tasted sale). The burger was extremely dry with little taste. Had to ask for BQ sauce as not provided. I'm afraid I would not recommended. There is a Wetherspoons just along the road in which the food is cheaper and of a set quality.
Called in for a quick drink with our son. Very welcoming with really fire and good beers. Would visit again.
In a mission to find good English beers. Friend said you must try Old Hookey Ale and I found d it here. Didn't eat here so don't know about food. But the best I found for being a cosy little pub with an open fire. Was playing Bowie,
Really impressive malt whisky selection here they even have a whisky menu! All reasonably priced. And a good stash of craft gins too. Worth a visit.
If you want a great pint of proper Ale you'll not find a better one than the Eagle Tavern. A landlord that takes care of his pumps and proud of his product! Oh and there's always lager for the girlie drinkers too
