Contribute FeedbackThe White House pub, located near Winston Churchill's grave in Bladon, has had mixed reviews. While some visitors found the food disappointing and overpriced, others praised the friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. The new management has brought life back to the pub, with improved food and drink selections. The Sunday Roast, a favorite of Churchill's, received positive feedback for flavor and portion sizes. Overall, the community-run pub shows promise, with potential to become a local favorite for both food and drink.
The White House pub reopened in October after successful purchase by the community. It has a new landlord and kitchen team, with a keen interest in real ales and well prepared pub food.
What a great find! having driven past for years, I was visiting a friend over Easter and once we finished our dog walking session we decided to call in and grab a bite to eat. We were greeted with a warm welcome, and a bowl of water was produced for our dogs. We were offered the extensive menu, that for late afternoon, included sandwiches and jackets, along with some main dishes and choices of Sunday Roast. We both ordered the Beef Roasts, and what a delicious meal, three vegetables, roast potatoes, homemade Yorkshires and a three slices of well carved beef, you could just see it was lovingly prepared. We cleared our plates, was offered deserts, but couldn't manage it. A quality Sunday roast at only so for the area great value. Well done to the Landlord (Kevin) I think, a great venue, fantastic food and we shall be back very soon!
Called in on Sunday on way to Oxford. Asked at if had table for Told big order in, could take order in about minutes. Finally got food at If it had not been a special trip taking daughter back to college would have made a fuss and left. Terrible experience and not even offered a free drink or bread basket. Never again.
Popped in and had a Sunday Roast, lovely moist Roast Beef of which there was plenty, the meal was freshly cooked, veg just right and the portions not so big that you are stuffed for a fortnight! The service was very good the staff friendly and the price of the drink was fair. The friendly bar manager told us that Roast Beef was Churchill's favorite dinner and that the pub had recently been refurbished and that there is now a new landlady. Well we wish them luck in the future and doubtless will be back again for more good value meals.
Pub situated in Bladon near Woodstock, opposite the church where Winston Churchill is buried. Seemed very welcoming at first, with a coal burning stove in one room and a traditional british pub bar. The beer was good but we were disappointed with the food. Sausages appeared to be low quality cheap catering ones, with mashed potato which was obviously not warmed properly in the microwave! The steak when it arrived did not appear to be anywhere near that weight and was overcooked. On another visit other people seemed happy with their meals so perhaps we were just unlucky but we didn't tempt fate twice with the food. The last visit was spoilt by some of the local youths shouting and swearing during the evening. Will not be going out of my way to visit in the future.
