"Stopped in by chance, I was looking for an ocean view lunch. I got the view and a delicious meal! I had the veggie quesadilla, it was really delicious, not just your typical plain cheese. The service was also great! Friendly and fast. Next time I'm driving the old island highway I will definitely go back."

"We've so enjoyed visiting the Bean Counter with friends and family in the past. Food and quality has always been excellent.What a bummer when we visited today to see if new management were keeping it the same. Poor display, and appearance of baked goods, we had 2 panninis, mine was almost cold and both had a thin sliver of cheese, tomato, couple of slivers of pepper and some herbs,- definitely not the generous well filled panninis of before. Don't know if its the same baker, but its not the same place, so we won't be driving up from Qualicum Beach again ."

"Merville General Store serves an area, rather than a village, as there is no village in the vicinity. It also supplies gas and essentials in food and liquor. The food area is small maybe a half dozen tables, but has great grub, and that is what it is, grub. Nothing fancy just plain good eating that fills a hole. Would recommend it for anyone who is passing up the old highway between Courtenay and Campbell River."

"I was 115km into a 135km bike ride and desperately in need of coffee. This place rose up in front of me like a beacon of hope. Great oat milk latte, super friendly staff. No vegan snacks (sad face) but that's okay."
