"We were staying locally, and Russell's was recommended by our hosts. There was clearly some nervousness, because it was so soon after lifting of Covid restrictions, but the proprietors had prepared well, and we enjoyed a lovely evening – in spite of a pompous prat in a kilt, who tried to insinuate that we were invading his personal space by being in Scotland. Turned out he was an English surgeon from Inverness, 80 miles away! The food was great, too."

"It is a nice place. Sadly, the steak was terrible, but the chicken and veg soup of the day was lovely! I also enjoyed the chunky chips. Very noisy, be aware of that if you are looking to wind down and relax after a hike, etc."

"The steak and the Ale pie were so delicious! Just what was needed after a long day and set up a tent. We had not booked a table, but was happy enough to be squeezed in, it is a very popular place, always filled with walkers, campers etc. Helpful staff, nice clean place."
