"Looked forward to our stay. Not cheap, in fact quite a dear do. Room was tired, ill fitting carpet frayed at edges, lack of maintenance shows in the detail. I suppose the issue for me was the family name and the hotel inspector connection, expectations were too high because of it and any flaw just stood out like a sore thumb. But I’ve stayed there now, so no need to return. Rooms: 2 Service: 5 Location: 5"

"What a boon to our village is the Black River Inn. Chef Pallatt is a magician with food and Gill Pallatt is the perfect host and manages her restaurant, bar and team with flair, style and a smile. I have never had anything but amazing food at the BRI but last night’s eating experience was exceptional. Thank you Gill and Alex for raising me to new heights of enjoyment and eating satisfaction. "The only dissatisfied about the horn of plenty is that at one point they must leave. we stayed for a night break to try to get some peace and we are sure. and not just that; we have a nice personal reception at check-in and similar when we arrived at this evening and at breakfast and tee the next day. even the cleaning staff has confirmed us with a welcome hall. it was clear that all employees had only one intention and that was to let us feel welcome and special. we had lucky enough to have booked the best balcony room in the bus house. the bed, the massive shower, the Lush bath, the sheer space we had provided were perfect. what was above it was the sunken balcony (also in the beginning of januar) with an unobstructed view of the tamartal. we can see that we come back to this room for a sunny break sometime and simply enjoy the view and call the reception for some delicious drinks. absolute highlight and proof of their desire to please and impress was eating. a nicely balanced menu with some of the tasty foods we have ever eaten was a pleasure both for the eye and for the mouth during dinner (with an excellently matched glass full-bodied red to accompany the perfectly boiled main venison), breakfast and afternoon tea. as privileged to eat once a week in a average and to have given up on desserts, because they usually pamper the meal, I can honestly say that the cook on the horn has mastered its desserts and cakes. they were still bright with an explosion of aromas and textures. we are not likely to be back at the same place for a break, but the enough horn is quite possibly the exception to this rule."

"Absolutely awful food and extortionately priced to boot. Not at all welcoming, we were ignored. Very limited menu, mainly consisting of what seemed to be microwaved and fried food. Sauce bottles haven't been cleaned in a very long time elderly looking sauce was congealed under the bottle top, so I dread to think what the kitchen is like. Our disabled son was told by the waitress to get his own drink from the fridge. Toilets are disgusting. We won't be back."

"My favourite indian restaurant when visiting Tavistock I've always booked a table in advance and my friend regularly has takeaways from here.
